I enjoy my writing, that's no secret. I'll write here and there. Role-playing online kind of demands it. Every once in a while, though, a storyline hits me so close to the heart that it burrows into my brain and refuses to release me. Everything I hear or read or touch finds a way to become a part of that storyline.

Lately, that storyline has been one that's been on-going in my role-playing group for a few years now. A story of love found and love lost. I'm usually thinking about it. I get very hyper-focused on ideas.

Tonight, during one of those rare moments I wasn't thinking about it, I was watching my TIVo'd episode of So You Think You Can Dance. A dancer nicknamed "The Exorcist" came on the stage. No one could tell me they expected the B-boy-like guy to start busting a move to "My Immortal" by Evanescence. I mean, really?

The routine blew my mind. Hard.

At the end of it, I just had to pause the damn show.

His dance had inspired me so much that for three hours, instead of finishing the last 45 minutes of the show and crawling into my warm bed with my boyfriend, I was writing. Writing a short story from the storyline I mentioned above. The entire time I had that sound playing on repeat in the background. (When I find something that inspires me I have a tendency to play it over and over again until I finish what it inspired me to do.)

I think the resulting short story was certainly worth it. It felt like a huge release to get it down on paper.... or Microsoft Word as the case may be. You can find it in my gallery named the same as the song and dance that inspired it, "My Immortal."
